Functional organizational structure
1. A linear organizational structure, which is often named pyramidal, bureaucratic, — strictly hierarchically organized, is characterized the division of areas of responsibility and undivided authority.
Two of linear organizational structure is selected: flat and high, differentiating the amount of hierarchical levels in relation to the incurrence of workers.
Advantages of linear organizational structures:
1) clear system of interconnections;
2) quickness of reaction in reply to direct orders;
3) co-ordination of actions of performers;
4) an operationability is in making decision;
5) clear expressed personal responsibility of leader for the accepted decisions.
A basic problem of organizational structures of this type is narrow-mindedness of amount of inferiors which can be «locked» on one leader, I.e. narrow-mindedness of control range (spheres).
A control range is determined the amount of connections in subdivision (organizations). Efficiency of administrative activity depends on a type and amount of connections the number of which unchanging grows with the increase of amount of employees, that complicates activity of leader substantially.
Types of connections:
• lines are single between inferiors;
• cross between inferiors;
• lines between a leader and any combination of inferiors.
What anymore amount of connections and what they more , the narrower there must be a control range for the maintainance of effective management above a structure. Therefore during realization of difficult types of activity, requiring from the employees of large number of concordance, clarifications, consultations from the side of leader, the narrow range of control and high (multilevel) organizational structure is needed.
2. A functional organizational structure is built on principle of distributing of functions into organization and creation of the through fine-tuning on a management functions.
